Vadodara: Criticising Chief Minister Narendra Modi for appointing Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan as the brand ambassador of the state, a senior Congress leader on Wednesday alleged the move was aimed at "hiding his failures."

"By appointing Amitabh Bachchan as the brand ambassador of Gujarat, Modi wants to hide his failures on all counts. This shows Modi is realising the fact that he is losing his grip over the people and making a desperate attempt to improve his image ahead of civic and panchayat bodies polls due later this year," AICC Secretary and in-charge of Gujarat P Sudhakar Reddy told a news agency.

Bachchan had organised a special screening of his movie 'Paa' for the Gujarat Chief Minister at a multiplex in Gandhinagar a few weeks ago.

Subsequently, the state government had given exemption from entertainment and other taxes to the movie, the first commercial film to be declared tax-free by Modi government.

Also, the megastar, in a letter to the state government had given his consent to be the brand ambassador following Modi's invitation to promote 'tourism and brand Gujarat.'

Reddy further alleged misuse of central funds in the ongoing 'Garib Kalyan Melas' across Gujarat.

"The fairs should be renamed as 'Modi-BJP Garib Kalyan Melas' which are being organised for benefiting contractors," he said, adding the Congress has decided to hold four zonal meets in various parts of the state for exposing the "misdeeds of Modi government".

That is all congress has to say?! Failure on all accounts? Even Muslims agree on Modi`s non-corrupt governance and rapid rate of progress in Gujarat. Today Gujarat is the fastest growing state in the country. Violence is minimal, govt revenue is up and people are happy - no wonder Modi has been elected three times in row!
Trying to bring Godhra episode is a lame exlcuse of non-Gujaratis to blame Gujarat. Jealously it is - nothing else. At least as a Gujarati I am happy to state that Gujarat is one of the most welcoming state to all other Indians and even to foreigners of most countries. Before blaming Modi, one should do some introspection on where they and their state stand.

It is ironic that Big B has fallen into the trap of Gujarat CM Narendra Modi who is facing serious legal problems about his involvement in the Godhra killing of minority community case. Big B, Amitab Bachchan should have thoutht twice before agreeing to be the brand ambasador of Gujarat state. CM, Narendra Modi who is losing ground fast in Gujarat State is acting like a `downing man catching a straw`.

Congress has nothing in its basket to offer to the Indian masses except the vote bank politics, and speaking something doing differently. Now they instead of doing something concrete and helpful and being positive, will play the negative role of finding faults of others. It is much better for the congress and the country if they try to find out their own mistakes and correct them.Ruling party today should perform better than yesterday.Spend energy on useful work.
