Gangtok: Dissidence raised its head yet
again in ruling Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) with a group of
its ordinary workers, mostly from Chief Minister Pawan Kumar
Chamling's home district of South Sikkim, urging him to vacate
the post of the party president to strengthen its democratic
spirit.
Chamling should vacate the post of the SDF President and
appoint some other leader in his place, the dissidents said in
a signed statement here.
They also asked the Chief Minister to direct all senior
SDF leaders, including ministers, to declare their assets in
order to enforce transparency in public life.
In an apparent bid to provoke the leadership to expel
them from the party,
The dissidents have accused Chamling of rewarding only
sychophants with plum posts in the government and the party
''at the cost of the committed workers who had made sacrifices
to further the interests of the party''.
They also flayed the expulsion of 14 leaders and workers
from the party and described the action as 'undemocratic' and
'dictatorial'.
A former MLA Bhoj Raj Rai was expelled from the party
last week for dissident activities, while a senior leader P S
Tamang has been staying away from the assembly and official
functions since after the state assembly polls last year.
