Mumbai: There are 11 women officers and
171 lady constables across 90 police stations in the city, the
government informed Bombay High Court on Tuesday.
The court had sought details of women police officials
in the city following a petition filed by a victim of human
trafficking, who had complained about non-availability of lady
officer at Malad police station.
Public Prosecutor Poornima Kantharia today submitted
the list of lady officers to the court.
The judge noted that only 48 police stations had
women police officers, and held that it was not sufficient.
The court directed the state to give details such as
the sanctioned strength of female police officers and the
vacancies within two weeks.
