Bhubaneswar: Passengers of the Purushottam Express train had a narrow escape on Thursday near Nirgundi station in Orissa's Cuttack District when a long iron plate flew off the track and got stuck in the wheel, an official said.

"A long iron plate flew off the track and got stuck in the wheel of the train jamming the wheel and bringing the train to a grinding halt," said Nirakar Das, public relations officer of East Coast Railways.

The mishap took place late in the night between Nirgundi and Kendrapara stations when the Purushottam Express was travelling from New Delhi to Puri.

Later four coaches were replaced and the passengers were taken to Puri.
