Shimla: New Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court Kurian Joseph today favoured setting up of a green bench of the Court in the hill state to deal with cases pertaining to ecology and environment.

Soon after taking oath, Justice Kurian said he would explore the possibility of setting up of a green bench of the High Court in the state on the lines of the Kerala High Court.

The green bench would deal with cases relating to ecology and environment, he told mediapersons here.

The new Chief Justice also favoured Himachal High Court judges making public their assets.

Justice Joseph said he would see that no case should remain pending in the High Court for more than a year.

Earlier, Justice Joseph, 57, was administered the oath of office by Governor Urmila Singh at a simple function at the Raj Bhawan here.

Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal, members of his Council of Ministers, Assembly Speaker Tulsi Ram and senior state government ministers attended the function.
