Ghaziabad: Nine police personnel, including
an SP and two senior cops, have been suspended with immediate
effect for negligence, in connection with the incident in
which a youth was killed allegedly in police firing leading to
a violent backlash by angry locals.
Superintendent of Police (Rural) K K Asthana, Dy SP (Garh
Mukteswar) Rajpal Singh, SHO of Simbhaoli Police Station K P S
Chal and six others were suspended for dereliction of duty,
police sources said.
28-year-old Parvez was allegedly shot dead by a police
team in sugarcane field mistaking him for a criminal, in Bat
village under Garh Mukteswar tehsil on Monday night. Angry
villagers set on fire Simbhaoli police station, on NH-24, and
several vehicles including four roadways buses.
IGP (Meerut zone) Javed Akhtar and Commissioner (Meerut
division) Shravan Kumar controlled the situation at the
village. Heavy police force and CRPF have been deployed in
Simbhaoli and affected villages, sources said.
DM R Ramesh Kumar has ordered a magisterial inquiry into
the incident.
Meanwhile, MM Baig has been posted as the new SP (rural)
and Rahul Srivastava as the DSP.
