Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday said he was awaiting Presidential assent to the Bill related to confiscation of disproportionate assets of corrupt officials in the state.
The new legislation will be useful in tightening noose around the corrupt officials, Kumar told reporters, while releasing the report on 'Development with Justice' on the completion of 4th year of his term.
Stating that the state government had taken a number of
steps to weed out corruption, he said the number of
registration of anti-corruption cases under his rule had
increased substantially comparing to those in the RJD regime,
from 1996 to 2005.
While the number of such cases was 28.5 a year under RJD
rule in the nine years, 110 anti-corruption cases had been
registered in 2008 and 87 cases till September 2009, he said.
Kumar stressed the need for special courts for speedy
trial of such cases.
Kumar further informed that chargesheets had already been
submitted against 595 gazetted officers, 632 non-gazetted
public servants and 302 other persons from 2006 to September
2009.
Besides, property worth Rs eight crore was identified and
cases relating to officials accumulating wealth
disproportionate to their known sources of income registered,
he said.
On RJD's charge that the four-year Nitish Kumar rule was
characterised by corruption and misrule, Kumar said, "people
know what they have done in past."
On the Opposition charges of 'estimate scam' flourishing
in Bihar during the past four years, he said "they have
mastery over scam and they may be knowing what is the estimate
scam all about."
RJD has recently alleged that during Nitish Kumar rule a
huge amount of money had been embezzled from the estimated
fund for several Detail Project Report (DPR) in the state.
