Aizawl: Mizoram government would never
accept the demand for a separate Bru Autonomous District
Council, state Home Minister R Lalzirliana said here on Sunday.
Barring this, any other demands put forward by the Bru
community can be solved through dialogue between the state
government and the leaders of the community, Lalzirliana told
reporters here.
Reacting to allegations by Delhi-based Asian Centre for
Human Rights (ACRH) that the Mizoram government was behind the
recent communal outburst triggered by the murder of a Mizo
youth, he said ACRH officials are most welcome to come to
Mizoram and see the facts by themselves.
"They should come and see the relief works being
undertaken by the government, the church and the NGOs in the
communal violence hit areas," he said.
Over 2,000 people belonging to Bru community have taken
shelter in evacuee camps in Tripura following violence
triggered by the killing of a mizo youth by suspected
insurgents of Bru National Army (BNA) on November 13.
On the communal backlash against the Brus, the minister
said the Mizo people had "always co-existed" with other
minority communities like Chakmas, Gorkhas and Brus.
"Communal tension often surfaced between the Mizos and
the Brus because the Bru militants used to kill Mizos and the
Mizos never murder them even in retaliatory acts," he said.
