Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh government today alleged that despite wiping out Naxalism from Mandla and Dindori districts and curbing it effectively in Balaghat, the Centre has stopped the aid to the state for fighting the menace.

"Instead of rewarding for wiping out Naxalism from Dindori and Mandla districts and effectively curbing it in Balaghat, the Centre has stopped the aid given to the state to fight the menace," Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Uma Shankar Gupta said in the State Assembly, while replying to a debate on deteriorating law and order situation.

He said in Balaghat, Naxalism was not just controlled by the power of gun, but also by carrying out developmental works and by providing benefits of welfare schemes to the people.

Referring to the CPI(ML) programme in the state capital, Gupta said that it was not a banned organisation and they have sought permission to hold a convention as per their democratic right and the same was given to them.

He said that after receiving reports of raising of some slogans, vigil around the convention was intensified.

The state home minister assured the House that under no circumstances terrorism and crime will be allowed to flourish in the state.

He also blamed the Congress rule(1993-2003) for sheltering terror elements in the state.

On dacoity problem, Gupta said police have wiped out the problem from affected areas and not a single large gang is active in the state at present.

The Home Minister said that the government is dealing with the problem of shortage of manpower by recruiting 5,500 police personnel and is equipping them with modern weapons and better facilities.

Earlier, launching an attack on the state government for deteriorating law and order situation, deputy Leader of the Congress Legislature Party, Choudhry Rakesh Singh Chaturvedi said there is a regime of fear in the state, especially in Indore.

He said innocent tribals were shot dead by the police in Dindori and it was for the first time in the last 20 years that such an incident took place in the state.

Arif Aqeel (Congress) said in the name of worshipping weapons, Chief Minister as well as minors were displaying arms by openly violating rules and demanded to put a ban on such practice.

Accusing the government, Ram Niwas Rawat also of the Congress said the state has surged ahead in the country in cases of rape and vehicle thefts.

Leaders of Bahujan Samaj Party, Samajwadi Party and Bhatrtiya Jan Shakti also expressed concern over deteriorating law and order situation in the state.
