New Delhi: A day after Madhya Pradesh
government issued a show-cause notice to the Vice Chancellor
of a university in Indore where Congress leader Rahul Gandhi
had attended a "political" programme, Chief Minister Shivraj
Singh Chouhan refused to comment on the development.
"I will not comment on the issue. The concerned ministry
must have made some enquiry with the university," he said when
asked by the media why the step was taken.
In the notice issued to VC of Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya
(DAVV), the state's Higher Education Department has asked why
the university administration granted permission for holding a
political programme on its own without bringing the matter to
the knowledge of the state government.
On January 19, Rahul had interacted with the students of
the DAVV in the university auditorium with an objective to
encourage youths to join politics.
Congress general secretary and former MP CM Digvijay
Singh, while criticising the state government's move, had
said, "Chouhan should look at himself. A number of meetings of
ABVP took place in colleges during his Chief Ministership
there. Where had his honesty gone then?"
Asked to react to Digvijay's statement, Chouhan said that
the Congress leader "has always shown too much interest in the
state government's functioning".
On his government's move to remove "vulgar" hoardings
from various places in Bhopal city, the Chief Minister said
that the step was being taken as huge posters and banners
showing scantily clad women had been put up at vantage points
in the city and even outside women's colleges.
"This embarrassed our mothers and sisters to no end and
therefore we have been removing such posters and advertisement
hoardings. We are not indulging in any moral policing," he
said.
