Panaji: In an apparent forewarning to
Congress, the non-Congress legislators supporting state
government on Sunday decided to be united in their future course
of action.
Seven legislators, including three from Nationalist
Congress Party (NCP), two from Maharashtrawadi Gomantak party
(MGP), one from United Goans Democratic party (UGDP) and an
independent met NCP chief Sharad Pawar in Mumbai today.
"The entire group has pledged to remain united in the
interest of the state," NCP spokesman Prakash Bhingsale said
over phone from Mumbai.
The decision attains importance on the backdrop of recent
move by state government to drop MGP legislator, Ramakrishna
Dhavalikar from the state cabinet. The move upset Pawar, who
intervened and asked Congress not to drop the legislator from
Cabinet.
Vishwajeet Rane, an independent legislator and son of Goa
legislative assembly speaker Pratapsingh Rane, is also a part
of group seven who met Pawar.
Bhingsale said that all the legislators getting united do
not indicate any crisis-like situation. "They are committed
for the stability of the state and overall development," he
commented.
