Mumbai: Nooriya Haveliwala, arrested for
allegedly mowing down two persons including a traffic
policeman and injuring four constables, today approached the
sessions court seeking bail.
Nooriya (27), a beautician by profession, on January
30 was driving towards her home at Colaba in south Mumbai when
she lost control over her Honda CRV vehicle and hit a bike and
a police jeep.
The biker, Afzal Maknejia (35) was killed on the spot
while Dina Nath Shinde (40), a traffic police ASI, succumbed
to his injuries at a hospital the next day.
Nooriya was arrested from the accident spot and has
been booked for culpable homicide not amounting to murder and
rash and negligent driving.
Nooriya in her bail plea has stated that there was no
intention behind the accident and that her custody was not
required any more.
The Sessions Court has directed the prosecution to
file their reply by February 16.
Meanwhile, one of the injured constables Shailesh
Jadhav has filed an intervening application opposing Nooriya's
bail plea stating that it was a serious offence.
Nooriya's medical tests revealed 457 ml acohol content
in her blood samples.
Nooriya is presently lodged at the Byculla prison.
