Mumbai: Suspected Shiv Sena activists vandalised the 126-year-old Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS), demanding the word 'Bombay' be replaced by 'Mumbai' in its name.

Armed with bamboo sticks, around 40 activists marched into the premises and vandalised the society's signboard by taking off the 'B' from 'Bombay' in the name last night, police said.

The building of BNHS, a body engaged in nature conservation research, is located opposite Maharashtra Police headquarters in south Mumbai.

They also put banners in Marathi with 'Mumbai Natural History Society' as its changed name.

No one has been arrested, police said, adding the society has not launched any complaint so far.
