Agartala: The opposition stalled
proceedings in the Tripura assembly for the second day today
over a comment by Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on Monday about
alleged nexus between outlawed militant groups and the
Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura.
The Leader of the Opposition belonging to the Congress
Ratan Lal Nath raised the issue when the House began and
demanded that Sarkar would have to furnish proof that INPT has
nexus with outlawed groups or tender an apology in the House.
After both members of the treasury and opposition
benches started shouting and thumping desks Speaker Ramendra
Chandra Debnath adjourned the House for 10 minutes, but the
same situation prevailed when the House re-assembled.
The Chief Minister then said, "There is a notion among
the people of the state that INPT has links with outlaws and
Congress is soft on insurgents."
The lone INPT member, Bijoy Hrankhawl, who is the
president of the party then entered into the house and said it
was unjust to blame any person or organisation without proof.
When the pandemonium refused to abate the Speaker
adjourned the house for an indefinite period.
