Hyderabad: Seeking his reinstatement as
DGP, ousted chief of Andhra Pradesh Police S S P Yadav on Friday
challenged the promotion of R R Girish Kumar to the top job.
In a petition filed before the Central Administrative
Tribunal, Yadav alleged that Kumar was promoted to the rank of
DGP in violation of statutory rules and the Government Order
(GO) "suffered from several infirmities", and the promotion
was "illegal".
Yadav named the Union Government, the Andhra Pradesh
Government and incumbent DGP Kumar as the respondents in the
case.
The senior IPS officer has been appointed
Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of Andhra Pradesh State
Road Transport Corporation, a post normally held by IG or
Additional DGP-rank officer.
Yadav further contended that the government superseded
at least four senior IPS officers while promoting Kumar.
"Girish Kumar was being shown undue favour for some
obvious reasons. This shows the motive behind the pre-planned
and illegal action," Yadav said in the petition and prayed
before the CAT to quash the GO and direct the government to
restore his position as state police chief.
