Jaipur: A total of 6,449 candidates,
including 23 for four mayoral posts, have been left in fray
for civic body polls in Rajasthan, slated for November 23, a
state election commission spokesman said on Sunday.
Of the 46 civic bodies, polling will be held to elect one
mayor each in the Jaipur, Kota, Jodhpur, and Bikaner Municipal
Corporations, and one chairman each in eleven municipal
councils and 32 municipalities.
Nineteen candidates were elected unopposed in 19 wards
out of 6179 wards, the spokesman said. This included eleven of
ruling Congress party, four each of BJP and Independents.
Twenty three candidates including one each of Congress
and BJP are in poll battle for the mayoral polls of Jaipur,
Kota, Jodhpur, and Bikaner.
Altogether 247 candidates are vying for Chairman posts
in 11 municipal council and 31 municipalities.
As many as 6179 candidates are pitched in the poll
battle for 1612 wards in 46 civic bodies.
About 14,700 EVMs would be used for free and fair
polls besides deploying 40,000 employees on election duty.
Over 56.59 lakh voters would use their right of
franchise on November 23, and the results would be declared on
November 26, the official said.
