New Delhi: A day after Sonia Gandhi was elected Congress chief unopposed for the record fourth term, party workers today greeted her for the feat at her residence.

While some of the AICC general secretaries went to her residence in the morning, workers and leaders of Delhi Congress followed suit.

Chanting slogans in favour of the 63-year-old leader and carrying placards, the workers hailed her contributions to the Congress and the country.

West Delhi MP Mahabal Mishra arrived with a large number of followers. Carrying garlands and placards, they went inside 10 Janpath to greet Gandhi.

A delegation of Mahila Congress led by Prabha Thakur, the President of the organisation, also greeted Gandhi. "The post of Congress president is a very big responsibility towards the nation," Gandhi said yesterday as she was given the certificate of her victory by the party's Central Election Authority in-charge Oscar Fernandes.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and a galaxy of leaders including Union Ministers and AICC functionaries greeted the party chief yesterday.

With Gandhi's election, the Congress Working Committee has been dissolved and a Steering Committee taken over the role of the CWC. All the members of the CWC would be a part of the Steering Committee.

The new CWC is expected to be elected in the plenary of the Congress, scheduled to be held in the last week of December this year.
