Midnapore: A local court on Wednesday sent Maoist-backed PCPA leader Chhatradhar Mahato to 14 days jail custody in a case relating to ransacking of the police camp at Kalaimuri in Salbani police station.

Mahato was today produced before Chief Judicial Magistrate N N Dasgupta who sent him to jail custody when the prosecution did not oppose.

Mahato, the convener of People's Committee against Police Atrocities (PCPA), has been lodged in Midnapore jail on a series of cases against him.

CID officers posing as journalists arrested him on October 26.

The PCPA activists today blocked the roads at Lalgarh, Balpahari and Binpur of West Midnapore district demanding Mahato's release.

Meanwhile, a local court in Jhargram sent N Kisku, an alleged hardcore Maoist and squad leader, to five days police custody. He was arrested yesterday from Bagdoba village in Belpahari police station.
