Lucknow: In a bid to expand its base in the
politically crucial state of Uttar Pradesh, the membership
drive of youth Congress got underway on Thursday with union minister
of state for information technology, Sachin Pilot urging the
youth to lay the foundation of change in Uttar Pradesh.
"The people of Uttar Pradesh are fed up with the caste
politics since the past 20 years and want a change for which
youth would have to channelise all its energy in over two
years time for assembly elections as dreamt by AICC general
secretary Rahul Gandhi," Sachin Pilot said while inaugurating
the membership drive in 25 central districts of the state.
Pilot asked party workers to go all out to make
members in large numbers, as doing so they would provide the
keys of change to the youth of the state .
Terming election process started in the youth wing of the
party a golden opportunity for the youth, Pilot said that it
would bring an end to the culture of sycophancy and string
pullings, which earlier used to help people get senior
positions in the party.
"It is because of this process of internal democracy that
several youngsters became MPs and also found place in the
state assemblies," the union minister said.
UPCC president, Rita Bahuguna Joshi who assured all help
in the drive and asked the youth to give a direction so as to
bring about a change in the state.
