PM announces Rs 1,000 cr assistance to Karnataka   Raichur: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Saturday announced Rs 1,000 crore assistance to Karnataka to take up flood relief works after undertaking an aerial survey of the rain-ravaged areas in northern districts.

The Prime Minister, who flew over the rain battered villages along with Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, made the announcement at a press conference here.

Singh also reviewed relief measures initiated by the state government at a meeting attended among others by Yeddyurappa, Union Ministers S M Krishna, M Veerappa Moily and M Mallikarjun Kharge and state Rural Development Minister Shobha Karandlaje.

He also announced Rs one lakh ex-gratia to each of the families of victims of the unprecedented floods which left 226 people dead and caused large scale devastation.

Singh said a Central team would soon be deputed for an on-the-spot assessment of the extent of damage.

We thank our beloved PM for having announced equal amount as announced for Andhra Pradesh for rehabilitation of Flood Victims without partisan attitude and kept up his words. Now the responsibility lies on State Govt. for speedy and judicious spending of the amount released to cool the cries of lakhs of victims as quickly as possible with humane approach and put the authorities in roght path in this hour of crisis. It is like Water released from the Dam which needs proper channel and monitoring meshanisms for proper utilisations
