Madurai: Tamil Nadu Police today asserted
they were strictly following Election Commission's directives
in Pennagaram Assembly segment, going to bypolls on Mar 27.
Denying complaints by PMK that Police were favouring the
ruling DMK, DGP Lathika Charan told reporters that political
parties, the revenue department, and Police were taking the
videograph of the campaign to detect any violations.
Twelve checkposts had been set up to prevent movement of
anti-social elements. Besides 1,200 Policemen deployed in the
constituency, Central paramilitary forces also would be
pressed into service to help the local police.
On combing operations against Naxals in Dindigul and
Theni districts, she said action was taken whenever
intelligence inputs were received.
Replying to a question, she said all complaints against
self-styled godman Swami Nityanandha had been forwarded to
Karnataka Police.
Charan, who earlier heard grievances of police personnel
here, said she had received 720 petitions relating to
transfer, promotions, pay anomaly among others and these would
be redressed within a period of six months.
