Madurai: Tamil Nadu Police today asserted they were strictly following Election Commission's directives in Pennagaram Assembly segment, going to bypolls on Mar 27.

Denying complaints by PMK that Police were favouring the ruling DMK, DGP Lathika Charan told reporters that political parties, the revenue department, and Police were taking the videograph of the campaign to detect any violations.

Twelve checkposts had been set up to prevent movement of anti-social elements. Besides 1,200 Policemen deployed in the constituency, Central paramilitary forces also would be pressed into service to help the local police.

On combing operations against Naxals in Dindigul and Theni districts, she said action was taken whenever intelligence inputs were received.

Replying to a question, she said all complaints against self-styled godman Swami Nityanandha had been forwarded to Karnataka Police.

Charan, who earlier heard grievances of police personnel here, said she had received 720 petitions relating to transfer, promotions, pay anomaly among others and these would be redressed within a period of six months.
