Datia (MP): Congress general secretary
Rahul Gandhi Tuesday surprised everyone by visiting two Madhya
Pradesh villages bordering Uttar Pradesh to take stock of the
National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS).
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Rakesh Kumar
and Basai Police Station in-charge Vinayak Shukul confirmed
that Gandhi visited Lakhanpur and Bardha villages and met some
villagers.
The young leader reached the two villages en route
to Uttar Pradesh.
Gandhi was accompanied by Union Minister of State for
Panchayat and Rural Development and Jhansi MP Pradeep Jain.
The police officials said soon after getting
information about Gandhi's visit, a police team was rushed to
the village, but Gandhi had already left before they could
reach.
The villagers later said that they were happy to
see Rahul Gandhi all of a sudden in their midst and added that
he enquired about NREGS job cards and its implementation as
also about their families and children's education.
Rahul spent about 10 minutes there and later left for
Uttar Pradesh.
