Rains kill 2 in UP, lash Delhi and HP

New Delhi: Rains claimed two lives in flood-hit Uttar Pradesh and drenched Delhi and Chandigarh while playing a truant in Punjab and Haryana today.

Two persons were killed and 12 others injured after they were hit by lightning in UP's Lalitpur district last night.

According to Central Water Commission, Ganga, Ramganga, Yamuna, Sharda, Ghaghara and Rapti were flowing above the danger mark at many places in the state as Palliakalan in Kheri received maximum 22.4 mm rainfall followed by 20 mm in Bareilly district.

The national capital was lashed by heavy rains in the evening. The maximum temperature was recorded at 34.4 degree Celsius and the minimum at 26.5 degrees, MeT office said. The humidity swung between 74 and 92 per cent in Delhi.

Chandigarh received light showers though most areas of Punjab and Haryana faced severe humid conditions in the absence of rains.

Maximum temperature in the region was two to four degrees Celsius above normal, Met office said.

Hisar continued to be hottest with a high of 37.6 degrees Celsius, while Rohtak settled at a high of 34.8 degrees. Maximum temperature at Chandigarh was 33.9 degrees Celsius.

Humidity levels ranged between 80 and 90 per cent.

Barring light rains in some places, monsoon remained weak in Himachal Pradesh with marginal fluctuation in day temperatures.

Minimum temperatures remained 2-6 degrees above normal at most places. Capital Shimla had 23 mm of rains till this morning as Kalpa in Kinnaur was coldest in the region with a low of 14.5 degree C.

Una remained hottest in the region at 33.4 degrees.
