Chandigarh: The ruling Shiromani Akali Dal
(SAD) in Punjab on Tuesday demanded an apology from the UPA in
Parliament for its alleged failure to check rising prices of
essential commodities saying it had hit the common man hard.
Commenting on the President's address to the joint
session of Parliament, SAD Spokesman Daljeet Singh Cheema said
it reflected the non-performing character of the UPA which
gave only assurances and seldom fulfilled any of them.
Senior Ministers at the Centre have expressed their
inability and helplessness in controlling price rise and their
irresponsible statements have further complicated the issue,
he said.
The government is assuring high growth rate to the
country whereas in fact except for a handful of industrialists
and leaders of the ruling alliance, every one, specially the
common man, is suffering, he said.
He said UPA's recent decision to increase the price of
fertilisers reflected the difference between its commitments
and deeds which has further aggravated the problems of the
farming community already reeling under heavy debts due to
high input costs and low remunerative prices of their
produce.
Accusing UPA of having failed to control the prices and
"misleading" the country by talking big, he said the ruling
combine at the Centre should offer an apology to the nation in
Parliament.
