New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday slammed
the Delhi administration for its "insensitivity" in failing to
fill up over 200 posts of principals in government schools and
had a dig at it for talking about fundamental right to free
and compulsory Education.
A bench of Justices Dalveer Bhandari and K S
Radhakrishnan directed the Delhi Chief Secretary to conduct an
inquiry into the reasons for non filling up of the vacanies
since 2007 and initiate disciplinary action against those
responsible for the lapses.
The apex court granted four weeks to the Chief
Secretary to submit his inquiry and action taken report.
"It is astonishing that on the one hand Article 21
talks of free and compulsory education as a fundmanetal
right and on the other hand there is an infraction of the
fundamenal right when posts of 2007 have not been filled up
till date because of the total insensitivity of the District
Education Officer, NCT," the bench said in an order.
The apex court court gave vent to its feelings after
going through the affidavit filed by the UPSC which stated
that the Delhi government had approached it for filling up the
principals post in July, 2007, but failed to pursue the
process till date.
