New Delhi: The Indian Council of Agricultural
Research (ICAR) has constituted a committee of experts to make
an assessment of damage done by floods in Karnataka.
The committee would also suggest measures to bring back
agriculture to normalcy in the state, an official statement
said, adding the group of experts would soon visit the
affected districts -- Bellary, Bijapur, Bagalakot, Raichur and
Gulbarga -- and submit the report in a week.
The recent floods in Karnataka has not only damaged the
standing crops, silt and debris have been deposited on
farmers' fields. It also caused extensive river bank erosion
making large areas unfit for cultivation.
Scientists from Central Soil and Conservation Research
Centre, National Bureau of Soil Survey and Land Use Planning,
and ICAR Research Complex for Eastern Region in Patna are
members of the team.
