Shiv Sena flays Rahul Gandhi for calling Mumbai ‘Bombay’ Mumbai: In a fresh salvo against Rahul Gandhi, Shiv Sena today flayed the 'Congress yuvraj' for calling Mumbai as Bombay during his recent visit to the city.

"During his speech here, Rahul Gandhi repeatedly called Mumbai as Bombay. Those who want to break Mumbai away from Maharashtra call Mumbai as Bombay," Sena Chief Bal Thackeray said in an editorial in party mouthpiece 'Saamana.'

39-year-old Gandhi's Mumbai visit was like the "funeral procession of Congress" taken out by Marathi people, Thackeray said.

Ridiculing Minister of State for Home Ramesh Bagwe, who was seen carrying Gandhi's shoes, apparently for safe-keeping, during the Congress leader's visit here, Thackeray said, "The minister should be ashamed to stoop so low."

"Rahul Gandhi is not a Mahatma Gandhi so that his shoes should be held close to the heart," the editorial said.

What does a name make a difference? We have more issues, work and commitments in our daily life, people who have nothing to do are bothered about name and fame. What did Bal do in 50 years for the local people may we ask all the MArathi Manoos to think except to change the name of the City.

By using goonda tactics, the Marathi extremists will only cause harm to Mumbai. And Mumbai will have to be separated from Maharshtra ..They have forgotten that Mumbai was a fishing village before the British established a city. Outsiders set up businesses and factories where hardwork and skills were required. Small enterprises by migrants from UP & Bihar took a large part in giving Bombay a industrial image (eg Dharavi) and Sindhis and Gujratis contributed a lot to the original business setup as well. Workers from other states gradually took the place of the original Maharashtrian construction & unskilled labourers who due to their increasing prosperity shunned the back breaking work .Marrathi speakers from all over Maharashtra also got a chance to work in an urban setting and to educate themselves. Today even though they have a large share in everything they are misguided by politicians saying that outsiders are a burden on the city. Greed for jobs and trampling rights of outsiders will lead to an irreversible loss .There is still time for the Marathi speakers to wake up before Mumbai becomes Bombay again
