New Delhi: The wife, son and nephew of a
Sub Inspector were arrested here for allegedly kidnapping and
killing a 22-year-old engineering student suspecting that she
had an affair with the officer, police said on Thursday.
Raj Rani Sharma, her son Lalit and her brother's son
Narendra were arrested on Monday for their alleged involvement
in killing Sazia, who stayed in a rented accommodation in
Nangloi of west Delhi.
Sazia hailed from Bihar and was studying mechanical
engineering in the capital, a senior police official said
adding she was killed because of her "closeness" with Sharma.
The victim was allegedly blackmailing Sharma after they
came close to each other earlier this year.
She had first met Sharma in Nangloi police station in
January this year when she went there to complain about her
landlord with whom she had an argument.
"After this, they met many times and came close to each
other," the official said. Rajendra was later transferred to
the security wing.
However, his family came to know about their alleged
relationship. Her family was upset as Sazia allegedly started
using him for her personal work.
Sharma's wife then discussed the matter with her son and
nephew after which they allegedly kidnapped Sazia on October
seven.
"They took her to Hanumangarh village in Rajasthan and
murdered her. They burnt her body to eliminate any evidence,"
the official said.
After Sazia went missing, police registered a case of
kidnapping on October 14. The case was handed over to Special
Cell after the local police could not crack the case.
Her charred body was recovered on October 25.
The official said they were ascertaining the role of
Sharma in the incident.
