Srinagar: Accusing both the state government
and the Centre of not taking note of their plight, Sikhs in
Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday demanded immediate measures to improve
their lot.
"We are the only microscopic minority living in the valley
after the unfortunate exit of the Kashmiri Pandits but
regrettably neither the centre nor the state has taken notice
of our pitiable conditions," All Parties Sikh Coordination
Committee (APSCC) Coordinator Jagmohan Singh Raina said to a news agency.
Demanding extension of benefits under state and centrally
sponsored developmental schemes and job oriented programmes
for the community, he said no government in the past had come
up with any concrete policy for the development of Sikhs as in
the case of Buddhists, Gujjars or Kashmiri Pandits.
"We urge the state and central governments to alleviate
our painful situation, for the sake of peace and harmony, by a
just-remedy that could restore our faith in the elected
institutions of the country," he said.
