Varanasi: Lakhs of tourists witnessed the eternal beauty on Monday night, as the city celebrated Dev Deepawali festival, the Diwali of Gods, on the auspicious occasion of Kartik Purnima by illuminating crores of diyas.

Though the festival lacked some attractive features like decorated pontoon platform in the mid-stream before the Rajendra Prasad and Dashashwamedh Ghats, it succeeded in attracting crowds.

The steps of all the ghats, specially Dashashwamedh, Rajendra Prasad, Panchganga, Sindhia, Prahlad, Raja, Chet Singh, Assi and Tulsi ghats were illuminated with scores of diyas (earthen lamps), and the Ganga Arati was also organised.

The jawans of 39 GTC lit Akash Deep (sky lamp) for the martyrs, which was followed by Ganga poojan and divine Ganga Aarati.

Over two million people, which included over one lakh foreigners, started thronging the ghats before the sunset to see the beauty.

In view of huge gathering at the ghats, adequate security arrangement were made to maintain peace.
