Panaji: Suspended Police Inspector Ashish
Shirodkar charged with having a nexus with drug peddlers
appeared before the Deputy Superintendent of Police (Crime
branch) on Friday.
DSP-Crime Chandrakant Salgaoncar said Shirodkar deposed
before him in the case filed against him but refused to sign
the statement.
Shirodkar and constable Saish Pokle have been booked for
criminal conspiracy and corruption after an alleged Israeli
drug peddler Yaniv Benaim alias Atala confessed of his links
with them.
Salgaoncar said the both the policemen were being
investigated by Crime Branch for their alleged nexus with drug
peddlers.
A video footage was telecast by local channels last week
allegedly showing the link between the policemen and the drug
peddlers. Following the telecast, Shirodkar, along with four
others, was suspended.
Salgaoncar said Atala has admitted that the person shown
in the video tape was himself.
