Hyderabad: The ties between the Telugu
Desam and the Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC) came
under strain on Sunday with the Committee's Convenver alleging
that the main opposition party has an ambivalent stand on the
Telangana demand.
"The inference we can draw from yesterday's clash
between lawyers and TDP cadres is that TDP wants to continue
with its unclear and ambivalent stand on the Telangana issue.
Even if the party exits from JAC, we will continue our
agitation," JAC Convener C Kodandaram told reporters here.
The JAC Convener and other Telangana supporters took
exception to TDP Chief N Chandrababu Naidu's support to both
the separate statehood demand as well as the demand not to
divide the state.
The TDP, like ruling Congress, is vertically split on
the Telangana demand with leaders voicing the demands of their
respective regions.
Kodandaram took exception also to the reported
allegation of Chandrababu Naidu that the Telangana lawyers and
the JAC are being remote-controlled by someone is an insult to
the Telangana supporters.
The reason for the strain in the ties between the TDP
and JAC is yesterday's clash between TDP workers and lawyers.
Demanding that Naidu clarify whether he supported separate
Telangana or united Andhra Pradesh, the lawyers interrupted
his speech at a protest organised by his party.
Condemning Naidu's allegation that they disturbed the
TDP's protest yesterday at the behest of another party, the
lawyers said they did not belong to any party.
They called for all advocates in Telangana region
boycotting courts tomorrow in protest against the "attack" by
the TDP workers yesterday.
The lawyers also called for boycotting products of
Heritage Foods being promoted by the family members of Naidu
till he tendered an "unconditional" apology to them over
yesterday's incident.
TDP MLA quits
TDP MLA from Medak district M
Hanumantha Rao on Sunday submitted his resignation to Assembly
Speaker N Kiran Kumar Reddy in support of the demand for
Telangana.
"I have taken a tough decision. I hope my sacrifice
would yield the desired result," he told reporters at
Tirupati.
Rejecting the Terms of Reference of the Sri Krishna
Committee, the Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC) had
earlier called for the resignations of public representatives
from the region to mount pressure at the Centre for immediate
formation of Telangana following which 10 TRS MLAs and one MLA
each from TDP and BJP resigned from the House.
However, rejecting the JAC decision, ruling Congress
walked out of the panel while TDP leaders said they would quit
only if their Congress counterparts resigned.
Hanumantha Rao represents Medak Assembly seat, where
the Telangana demand is said to be intense.
