Three more encephalitis death in two days, toll touches 506

Gorakhpur(UP): Three more children succumbed to the deadly encephalitis during last two days here taking the toll due to different types of brain fever to 506 in eastern districts, since January this year, sources said.

As many as 12 new patients suffering from the fever have been admitted to various hospitals in the region during the period, Additional Director Health LP Rawat said adding that one patient died on Wednesday while two patients succumbed today.

He said that a total of 2,889 patients suffering from Japanese Encephalitis and Acute Encephalitis Syndrome were admitted this year to BRD Medical College and other hospitals of the region. Of this, 506 died.

The Additional Director, health said that 137 patients suffering from encephalitis are undergoing treatment at BRD MCH, while seven are admitted in government hospitals of adjoining districts.
