Ranchi: Several trains were cancelled or diverted on Saturday in the wake of 72-hour shutdown in Jharkhand and nearby states beginning midnight today by Maoists.

Up and Down Palamau Express, Gomo passenger, Barwadih passenger, Dehri-on-Sone passenger were cancelled on Central Industrial Chord line, according to railway sources.

Ranchi-Delhi Rajdhani Express, Shaktipunj Express, UP and Down Ranchi-Banaras passenger trains, Tata-Jammu-Tavi Express and Gomo-Gaya passenger have been diverted through Gomo-Gaya-Mughalsarai, the sources added.

The changes were made following Maoists bandh in eight states to protest against the proposed 'Operation Green Hunt' against them.

The 72-hour shutdown comes ahead of February 9 meeting of chief ministers of Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa and West Bengal to be chaired by Union Home Minister P Chidambaram in Kolkata.

Sources said security has been tightened at strategic points.
