Hyderabad: Two school teachers were on Wednesday
taken into custody on charges of sexually harassing girl
students at a Zilla Parishad school in Vishakhapatnam
district of Andhra Pradesh, police said.
The two teachers - Shankar Rao (Social Studies) and
Satya Babu (Physical Education) at Godicherla ZP high school
in Nakpalli mandal of Visakhapatnam district, allegedly
subjected the girl students to sexual harassment by asking
them to kiss, touch and by making obscene gestures, they said.
After learning about the sexual harassment, the kin
of the girls and villagers went to the school today and argued
with the teachers on the incident. Then, police intervened
and took both the teachers into custody for questioning.
The victims of the alleged sexual harassment, who are
ninth-standard girl students, informed to their parents on the
incident and also complained to the police on the incident
today, a senior police officer told PTI over phone.
It seems several girls were sexually harassed by the
two teachers for the past many days, but they (girls) reported
on the incident only today, the police officer said.
According to one victim, one of the teachers asked her
to come to his house and allegedly made obscene gestures and
grabbed her, however, she managed to free herself from his
clutches and ran away, the police officer said.
