Two workers attacked by elephants in Ooty

Udhagamandalam: Two estate workers, including a woman, were injured, when a herd of elephants attacked a group of workers, when they were going to work at Gudalur, about 60 kms from here in the early hours of Wednesday.

Four elephants and a calf, which strayed into the town blocked the way of the workers, who were moving to their estate.

One elephant caught hold of a 37-year old Ganapati, with its trunk and thrown him down, injuring him in the back and shoulder, police sources said.

Meanwhile, another elephant chased a 47-year old woman, Dhanabhagyam and hit her with its trunk, causing spinal injuries.

While Ganapathi was admitted to the Government hospital there, the woman, was referred to be admitted to the Government Hospital in Coimbatore, they said.
