ULFA leaders' police remand extended in Guwahati

Guwahati: The police remand of ULFA 'finance' secretary Chitrabon Hazarika and 'foreign' secretary Sasha Choudhury, arrested in Bangladesh and handed over to Assam police, was Friday extended by another 10 days.

The two senior leaders were produced before Kamrup Chief Judicial Magistrate Robin Phukan who remanded the duo to ten days' of police custody for the third time within a month.

Police had sought the extension of their custody for investigations into three blast cases at Paltanbazar, Bharalumukh and Bhangarh areas in Guwahati in January this year. Altogether, over 50 people were killed and around 100 were injured in these explosions.

The duo are currently under the custody of Special Operation Unit of Assam Police.

They were brought to Guwahati on November 6 and produced before the CJM the next day. The court had remanded them to 10 days' of police custody and to yet another 10 days on Nov 17.
