Rangiya: A suspected ULFA militant was killed in an encounter with a joint team of army and police in lower Assam's Kamrup (Rural) district today and arms were recovered from him.

On a tip off, the security forces launched an operation in Moumin area, under Boko police station along the Assam-Meghalaya border early this morning, official sources said.

When the joint team asked the ultra to halt after being spotted, he fired at the security men who also retaliated killing him on the spot, the sources said.

An AK-56 rifle, an improvised explosive device (IED) weighing five kg and a kitbag were recovered from the slain extremist.

The body of the insurgent, suspected to be from ULFA's 709 battalion, was sent for postmortem.
