Guwahati: Police on Saturday arrested a suspected United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) terrorist and recovered explosives from him.
According to police, an ULFA terrorist was spotted at around 2130 hrs IST on Saturday near the IOC refinery Noonmati in Guwahati by a joint team of police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) during routine patrolling.
A person was seen walking along the railway line near the Sector 3 area of refinery complex, they said adding that when he was asked to stop, he tried to run away, but was later caught.
Police recovered one kilogram RDX, half kilogram cycle iron balls and half kilogram screws from the arrested militant identified as Dharmendra Kalita, who belongs to ULFA's 109 battalion, police said.
The explosives were brought for blasts at the refinery and nearby places, police sources said adding interrogation is on.
Meanwhile, security has been tightened up in the areas close to the refinery.
