Ahmedabad: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that the Central government was creating obstacles by not approving projects worth Rs 304 crore meant for tribal development.

Speaking at a Garib Kalyan Mela in Nizhar taluka of Tapi district in South Gujarat Modi said,"There should not be politics in the name of tribal welfare. But if the Union government poses hurdles, we won't hesitate to fight it out."

Taking a dig at Union Minister of State for Tribal development Tushar Choudhry, who hails from the Tapi region, the chief Minister said,"Those who have been elected by the common people have now become the enemy of the tribals after acquiring power."

"Sitting in Delhi, the Minister for Tribal development (Choudhry) had not approved schemes worth Rs 304 crore proposed by the state government and is creating obstacles," Modi said.

Modi said that against the allocation of Rs 78 crore for infrastructure projects, Gujarat has received only Rs 48 crore, while a proposal of Rs 122 crore for building 65 hostel for students was pending with the Central ministry, along with other projects for roads, canals, bridges and housing.

During the Garib Kalyan mela he distributed assets worth Rs 69.3 crore to over 43,000 beneficiaries of Uchhal and Nizhar taluka of Tapi district.
