Patna: Bihar Assembly Wednesday witnessed
uproarious scenes with the opposition alleging corruption in
the execution of Indira Awas Yojana and staging a walkout.
Replying to a short-notice question of Achyutanand (LJP),
Rural Development minister Bhagwan Singh Kushwaha said as
against the target of construction of houses under Indira Awas
Yojana (IAY) at an estimated expenditure of 2120.5 crore
during 2008-09, a total of 4.68 lakh houses were constructed
for the below poverty line (BPL) families which was 77.31 per
cent of the target.
He said the state government had taken a number of steps
to weed out corruption in the IAY.
However, pointing out that rampant corruption prevailed in
the execution of the housing scheme, MLAs from RJD, Congress,
LJP and Left parties expressed dissatisfaction over the state
government's reply and staged a noisy walkout in the Assembly.
