Noida (UP): At least 12 people were injured, including seven policemen, on Tuesday in clashes between the Noida police and protesting villagers following a move to vacate encroached land.

Officials of the Noida authority along with police had gone to Sector 126 of this NCR town this morning to get the encroached land vacated. The land belongs to the Noida authority.

However, as soon as officials began the anti-encroachment drive villagers started pelting stones on the police leading to clashes.

The police had to fire in the air and resort to lathicharge to disperse the protesting crowd.

Some locals have been taken into custody in connection with the violence.

The situation was reported to be tense when the reports last came in.
