Shimla: Union Steel Minister Virbhadra Singh
on Wednesday alleged that the ruling BJP in Himachal Pradesh was
preparing CDs about a corruption case against him to take on
the Congress in the upcoming assembly bypolls.
Byelections to Rohroo and Jawali are scheduled to be held
on Novermber 7 and Singh's wife Pratibha Singh is tipped to be
Congress candidate in Rohroo.
"The CDs are being prepared in the capital of a north
Indian state with help of a former Congress leader to win
byelections for the BJP," Singh told reporters.
Singh, however, neither identified the capital city nor
the former Congressman. The CDs relate to a corruption case on
the basis of which an FIR was registered against Singh and his
wife in August.
"They (BJP) played this CD in the bypoll to Hamirpur
in 2007 which was won by chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal. It
was out to repeat the same in coming bypolls to Rohroo in
Shimla district and Jawali in Kangra," the former chief
minister said.
Claiming that the CDs would not turn elections fortunes
to BJP's favour this time, Singh said, "One cannot fool all
the people all the times with the same gimmicks".
While bypolls to Rohroo was necessitated due to Singh's
resignation after becoming a Union Minister, Jawali would go
to polls again due to resignation of former BJP MLA Rajan
Sushant who became MP from Kangra.
