Bhopal: In yet another step towards women empowerment, Madhya Pradesh Government would soon allow fair sex to work in second and third shifts in factories and other establishments across the state.

"Women will be able to work in second shift in factories and a notification in this regard will be issued within a week," Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced yesterday after inaugurating the Vardhman Textiles Unit at Mandideep near here.

"If needed even they (women) would be allowed to work in the third shift in the state," Chouhan said.

At present women are allowed to work in factories only in one shift in the state while in number of other states they are allowed to work in all the shifts.

Chouhan said that his government will continue with its endeavour to empower women and girls in the state.

Addressing on the occasion, Vardhman Group Chairman, S P Oswal said that the group would invest Rs 2,500 crore in the state and added that there is a favourable atmosphere for industrialisation in the state.

The group has set up Vardhman Yarns with an estimated cost of Rs 850 crore.

Earlier, Chouhan laid the foundation stone for the extesnion unit of LNG Bhilwara Group's Hindustan Electro Graphites (HEG) factory at Mandideep with an estimated cost of Rs 250 crore.

The production from the extension facility will begin from 2011. It will produce 66,000-80,000 metric tonne electro-grahite.

Speaking on the occasion, Bhilwara Group Chairman, Laxmi Niwas Jhunjhunwala informed that there are only seven industrial units of graphite in the world and among them two are in India.
