World honours Indian Constitution for its supremacy: Modi

Vadodara: Gujart Chief Minister Narendra Modi has said that entire world honours Indian Constitution for its supremacy.

He called upon people in the state to perform their duties with devotion and follow the ideals of Indian Constitution.

Modi was addressing the 'Sanmanyatra,' a procession of the Constitution of India marking its completion of 60 years in Surendranagar, about 200 kms from here, last evening.

Praising the supremacy of Indian Constitution, he said that under the chairmanship of Babasaheb Ambedkar, 211 scholars and experts prepared the Constitution for two years and 11 months. "Our rich and historic legacy and development strides in 21st Century give a new direction to our democracy.

It also gives immense strength to our nation," he added. With honour and pride, Modi placed the Constitution- Book on an elephant, and performed the puja. Surendranagar plays host to the state-level celebrations of Republic Day Festival as Gujarat Governor Kamlaji is to unfurl tricolor in the city tomorrow.

The Chief Minister himself led the procession by joining lakhs of citizens. Around 60 Women, belonging to deprived and weaker classes, joined the Yatra with 'Suvarna Kalash.'

Modi said, "our Constitution clearly defines powerful contributions of Government, Parliament, Judiciary and Media. The four pillars work in cooperation and it indicates the integrated role plying that consolidates our democratic system."

"The ideals and safeguards enshrined in our Constitution inspires us and also gives us immense strength. It becomes our prime responsibility that we perform our duty with nationalist spirit, Modi stated. Modi led people in paying homage to the architect of our Constitution Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar.

The procession concluded at Town-Hall Tower. Children and artistes presented a cultural programme. Saints and sages also joined the procession. Around 60 teachers, attired in the dress of Babasaheb Ambedkar and a police-band added glory to the procession.

Ministers, eminent leaders, MLAs and lakhs of people participated in the procession.
