Hyderabad: Y S Vijayalakshmi, widow of late
chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, will file her nomination
for Pulivendula assembly by-election tomorrow, but her
election is just a formality now with major political parties
opting out of contest.
Principal opposition party Telugu Desam Party and
actor-politician Chiranjeevi-led Praja Rajyam have decided
against fielding candidates for the December 19 by-poll.
Vijayalakshmi is set to file papers for Pulivendula, a
segment in Kadapa district represented by her late husband who
died in a helicopter crash on September 2.
"Going by the tradition, we have decided not to field
any candidate for the by-election in Pulivendula since the
Congress has named Vijayalakshmi as its nominee," TDP
president N Chandrababu Naidu said in a statement.
The PRP too announced that it was not fielding its
candidate for the by-poll. BJP and Lok Satta are also not keen
on contest.
The last date for filing of nominations is Wednesday,
while December 5 is the last day for withdrawal of papers for
the by-poll.
