19 accused in former Karna Minister`s murder acquitted

Mysore: A Fast track court in neighbouring Chamrajnagar on Wednesday acquitted 19 accused charged with the 2002 murder of former Karnataka Minister H Nagappa who died in captivity after he was kidnapped by forest brigand Veerappan.

Veerappan was shot dead by the Tamil Nadu Special Task Force in October 2004.

In all 23 persons including Veerappan were charged with Nagappa's kidnapping from his village in Kamagere in Chamrajnagar taluk on August 9, 2002. His body was found in December the same year in the forest.

The 19 persons were acquitted for lack of evidence while four including Veerappan had died.
