49 workers injured in Goa factory blast

Panaji, July 04: At least 49 workers were injured, two of them seriously, in a blast at steel rolling mill in Cuncolim industrial estate, 70 kilometres from here.

The blast occurred at 11.30 this morning at Global Ispat steel rolling mill, police said, adding that the causes of the blast is yet to be ascertained.

"Major portion of the factory is destroyed. The impact of the blast damaged the entire building," a senior police officer said requesting anonymity.

The injured workers have been shifted to nearby private and state-run hospitals in Margao town.

"Two workers are critical and are being treated at Goa Medical College near Panaji," they said.
