Madurai: Action would be taken against those involved in the brutal murder of a sub-inspector recently, Director General of Police Letika Saran said.

“Action will be taken against all the guilty persons,” she said when asked about the involvement of a retired sub-inspector in the murder of R Vetrivel who was attacked with bombs and sickles in a case of mistaken identity.

Details of the murder were being collected. A list of police personnel who had links with criminals, were also being prepared, she said, adding, action would be taken against them.

Referring to Southern Tamil Nadu, especially Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Tuticorin districts accounting for 40 to 45 percent of murders in 2009,she said most were due to family feud.

"Unless some one lodged the complaint, murder due to family disputes cannot be prevented," she told reporters here Friday evening.

Complaints given by women would be registered not only in all women Police stations, but other stations also. "There should not be any delay,'' she said.

On the proposal to increase the number of "108 ambulance services", she said more ambulance services would facilitate swift shifting of the injured within the golden hour. Besides police were also assisting, she added.
