Bangalore: The attempt by some advocates of Advocates Association of Bangalore (AAB) to garner support for controversial Karnataka Chief Justice PD Dinakaran, whose
tranfer to Sikkim High Court has been recommended by Supreme Court collegium, evoked a poor response on Friday.
Only around 20 advocates took part in the protest in
in Basaveshwar Circle here.
The advocates, who gave a call for the agitation yesterday,
saying he should not be transferred and be allowed to resume
judicial work, had claimed that over 500 lawyers would
participate in the protest.
Their move to submit a memorandum to Governor H R Bhardwaj
on the issue also failed as he was out of town. The advocates
however said they would submit the memorandum tomorrow.
The apex court's decision had evoked strong protests in
Sikkim, with lawyers threatening to boycott his court. However,
on April 13, Jammu and Kashmir High Court Chief Justice Barin
Ghosh was sworn in as the Chief Justice of Sikkim High Court.
Dinakaran, facing impeachment proceedings in the Rajya
Sabha, was recently asked by the Collegium to proceed on
leave, but he had refused to fall in line.
